Central Houston is working toward the creation of a scenic district over downtown by the City of Houston to control the increase of billboards. It is also working with the City on providing variances to alcoholic beverage licensing requirements for restaurants and hotels within close proximity to churches and schools. This is to allow the redevelopment of key structures in the heart of downtown. The organization is frequently called upon regarding other regulatory issues including building code issues, historic preservation incentives and other measures to foster the redevelopment of downtown.
