Special needs require quick and specialized responses to enhance benefits to the community. On an ad-hoc basis, Central Houston has assisted in preparation for such events as the 1997 Houston Industries Power of Houston fireworks spectacular, the 1994 and 1995 Thanksgiving Day Parades, 1994 and 1995 Rockets Parades, the 1998-2000 Comets parades, 1992 Urban Land Institute Conference, the 1992 U.S. Conference of Mayors, the 1992 Republican National Convention, the 1990 Economic Summit, the opening of the George R. Brown Convention Center, and Rendezvous Houston. Central Houston provides on-going coordination support to the city of Houston for at-large downtown communications regarding street closures for events of all types.
